Added: October 05, 2008Most fishing derbies involve some form of competition -- the most fish, largest fish, tagged fish, largest aggregate catch, or some combination of these. Although this may be a good method for bass tournaments in which the competitors are experienced anglers, it is not a good procedure for fishing derbies with large participation of mainly young and inexperienced participants.

Added: October 20, 2008Chemicals are applied to ponds and lakes to control weeds; to control fish diseases; to eliminate undesirable fish; to control undesirable insects and aquatic invertebrates and to correct undesirable water quality problems. Pond owners are often confused by terminology, units of measure, and formulations. This confusion makes it difficult to select the right chemical, to calculate the proper amount to be applied, and to apply it to the pond in a correct and safe manner.

Citizens can protect property from wildlife committing or about to commit damage. Few people obtain permits to trap house mice because, as an exotic species, they are not protected. Consider lethal measures as a last resort, however. Most homeowners can deal quite effectively with wildlife using safe, non-lethal means.

Added: October 31, 2008The structural integrity of tree stems, roots and branches are dependent upon a number of very conservative allocation and building processes. Mechanical injuries, growth faults, and decay processes all significantly impact how dynamic loads are resisted within the tree. One form of tree response to decay and mechanical load changes is a boundary setting process which under some conditions lead to a cavity. Hollow trees can be found everywhere tree-forms exist.
- Microsprinkler Irrigation for Cold Protection of Florida Citrus
-
More than nearly any other factor, freezes have caused some of the most dramatic changes in fruit supply, availability, and price. Thus, any method that provides some cold protection can be of major importance to citrus growers. Many cold protection methods have been used over the years. These methods include heaters, wind machines, fog generators, high volume over-tree irrigation, and low volume undertree microsprinkler irrigation. Low volume undertree microsprinkler irrigation is an alternative method for partial frost protection and can be more affordable than other methods (Fig. 1). Microsprinklers have proven effective during several freeze nights in central Florida tests. In addition to frost protection, microsprinklers can provide effective year-round irrigation
